  • Sony were demonstrating the updated versions of their EX93 and XE94 flagship 4K LED LCD TVs at CES 2017.
The new Ultra HD models will come in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes for the XE93 and 75 inches for the XE94. The XE93 uses a revised version of the slim backlight introduced last year but now the LEDs are along the top and bottom rather than the sides. The XE94 uses a full array backlight and both models include local dimming and are brighter than last year. Their rear panels use a more natural and neutral colour scheme and there are covers for the connections and cable management.

The XE93/94 support HDR 10, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and, via a firmware update in the summer, Dolby Vision. They also use the X1 Extreme processor that was launched on the ZD9 last year, with dual databases, superbit mapping for 4K and object-based HDR remastering. There will also be an HDR gaming mode and the TV uses HDMI 2.0a inputs. The XE93/94 will launch with Android M and be upgraded to Android N when the Dolby Vision update is released. Sony wouldn't confirm pricing at this point but the XE93/94 will be available in the spring.
