Sony KD-55X8509C User Review

Worst TV I have ever owned
Review of Sony KD-55X8509C LED LCD TV by simsini, Nov 15, 2016.
The TV is a very good picture for regular 1080p HD content, but it's HDR and dark scene performance, 3D crosstalk, clouding and numerous issues with the Android OS mean that I cannot recommend it.
This item was purchased for £849 from Sony Centre in 2016. The reviewer still owns this product.

    Pros

    • Good 1080p picture
    • Handles motion well

    Cons

    • Terrible clouding, worsens with HDR and viewing at a slight angle
    • Crosstalk on 3D
    • TV occasionally reboots itself
    • Remote can be unresponsive
    • TV suffers video drop-outs
    • TV fails to restore HDMI signal occasionally after using Chromecast
    • TV regularly drops wifi signal requiring reboot

Sonys shouldve refunded all lower end 2015 tv owners and their customer service is the worst ive ever experienced.

Can honestly say I have never had wifi drop on the TV. Agree with comments about random reboots. However, after calibrating the TV I have found the picture to be super in both 1080p and 4K HDR. I do have minimal clouding, others seem to have quite a lot. Luck of the draw I suppose.

I've had this TV a year, and it has proved to be a disaster zone. Switches itself off, remote often dosen't work. TV is VERY slow and sluggish, can take 10 - 15 seconds just to switch from an App to a TV station. Now with HDR content around it REALLY shows its weaknesses - once the TV switches to HDR you are LOCKED OUT of many of the useful picture features, such as Motion Flow etc. The picture is FAR WORSE in HDR mode than watching the same movie on standard bluray. Also, playing a video game with HDR takes the User out of Game Mode, thereby increasing the input lag.

To finish off the debacle, after buying a 400 euro set of Sony Headphones, I had to buy an LG Bluetooth Adaptor, as Sony's TV's only have Bluetooth profiles for their remote controls and Playstation joypads. What an embarassment Sony are this generation. I will NEVER buy another product from them. Will be replacing this TV with a proper TV from either Samsung or Panasonic...
