The Televisual Bargain of the Century
Review of Hisense 65K720 LED LCD TV by samsungderby, Mar 23, 2016.
Travelling back from the Derby-Forest game at the Ipro stadium, i reflected on what had been a game of 2 halfs. Forest pressing and more dynamic in the first but Derby with more urgency in the second. Ultimately our extra quality showed in the end and we won 1-0.
Why is this relevant? well it has occured to me that this is a great metaphor for the K720. This tv really is a game of 2 halfs, Out of the box it was a bit of a mess.
Firstly it needed a firmware upgrade to sort out some motion issues and smart hub issues.
Secondly the accuracy of the picture is about as far from the industry standards as it can get.
But, and it is a big but, if you persevere with it, it is capable of producing some stunning images, and like my beloved team its inherent qualities will shine through in the end (ever the optimist fan)

after messing around with firmware upgrades and trying different picture settings recommended by others, i managed to get a very good picture, which for the price i paid, i was more than happy with.
Then i made the decision to get it professionally THX calibrated, by this forums very own CanaryJules, and WOW it is now not just a bargain it is a daylight robbery of Hatton garden proportions (even factoring the cost of said calibration)
For a total outlay of £1200 i now have a tv that is at least as good as a 3 grand unit from the Samsungs and Sonys of the world.
The future is bright the future is as red as the Chinese flag.

Negatives , you ask ? Well It does suffer from some DSE/banding on football in particular , but it is no worse than the equivalently priced models from the usual suspects, it outperforms in every other respect.
The smart hub isnt the best, particularly worthy of criticism is the web browser, which is getting towards chocolate teapot territory.
But that is it really and for this price it would be churlish to be overly judgemental, and providing Hisense sort out the issues mentioned in their forthcoming updates, i will be happier than a happy chappy in happysville happyzona.

    Cons

    • Out of the box it is not great, so not best choice for a complete novice.
    • Some slight banding/uniformity issues on football in particular
    • Smart hub and web browser not the best.
    • Lack of Amazon currently (though is supposed to be coming soon)
    • Some stuttering issues have been reported at 4k 60p through HDMI (though this is supposedly being remedied in a forthcoming firmware update)
    • Not the best i have seen with low quality SD sources
