Sony KD-55XE9305 - I Quite Like this TV
Review of Sony KD-55XE9305 LED LCD TV by Coulson, Aug 11, 2018.
I bought this TV for one thing. HDR. This is simply one of the best performing HDR TVs around. Excellent HDR providing bright highlights, excellent black levels and great colour volume.

But what has surprised me is the higher level of detail I can see, even for HD TV never mind Blu Ray. I really didn't think that the X1 Extreme chipset would provide this much of a boost over the X1 chipset. I mean how could it? But it really does. The upscaling and colour reproduction is just amazing. Even SD sources look great. I don't know if I have lucked out in panels but my last two XE Sony TVs have had excellent screen uniformity.

It a decent sounding TV as well, gets loud without distorting. I agree with the review in that there is decent stereo separation and that there is definitely a small woofer in this TV. With the right content, or any games there is surprisingly good bass for a TV. I would rate this as good as a decent low to mid-range sound bar with woofer.

Android TV is still clunky and slow, but I think that Android TV works a little better with the X1 Extreme chipset. It's a little more responsive.

It also has very simple but effective cable management which is the perfect combination.

Overall if you watch a lot of 4k HDR and HD then this is an awesome TV. Is OLED better?
Objectively speaking yes and no. Every review says buy OLED because it has infinite black and the best contrast levels. But this TV still has excellent black levels and great contrast. So as great as OLED is, it's still not the best for HDR. The best HDR experience is still provided by LED TVs like this one.

*edited again because the woofer is much better than I thought :)
This item was purchased for 950ish from Richer Sounds in 2018. The reviewer still owns this product.
