I bought my Opportunity player because I did not want to update my Sony TV or my Marantz receivers yet. I use the analog outputs from the OPPO and feed directly to my receiver. I also use the direct bypass mode to feed video directly to my TV as the receiver can only degrade the signal.
The malfunction WILL occur whenever the tv is accidentally switched off and the OPPO player is on. Under those conditions I get DIGITAL rather than analog output from the OPPO player into my receiver - this risks blowing my tweeters.
Many TVs, well mine anyway, will NOT switch right back on after you turn them off. Well anyway I follow the following procedure th=o safeguard my system:
When turning on - the OPPO player goes on AFTER the TV and my cable box are turned on. My receiver and Carver amp are then turned on. The volume control is then adjusted up.
When turning off the OPPO is turned off first, then the tv and cable box. Then the volume control is turned down. Then receiver and amp are powered down.
What a pain.
