It's more than just a Soundbar
Review of Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar by seamooncafe, Jan 23, 2018.
My review will be including Main unit MS650 + Surround unit SWA9000S only. I encourage this combination, as it expands the sound stage and gives me full 5.0 surround. I select SMART Mode for Movies, and STANDARD for Music. Overall sound performance is crisp and detail and movie dialogue is clear that you won't miss any single of them. When listening to music or songs, you don't feel like it's coming from just a Soundbar.

Volume setting at level 40-50/100 is sufficient for a small living area (10 x 20 feet). Bass & Treble level needs to be at +6 for full experience. For Surround unit, volume setting needs to be at max level +6 only to satisfy the surround experience, which can be adjusted at Sound Control setting. Without external subwoofer (W700), bass from this Soundbar might not satisfy certain group of people, because you cannot feel floor-shaking. One of the drawback of this Soundbar is, when you change the volume from 40 to 50 to 60, it does not give you a leap of volume level, you'll just hear a slight increase in volume only.

MS650 is equipped with Dolby Digital 5.1, and now also upgraded to DTS Digital Surround (it was DTS2.0). With this Soundbar + Surround unit, we do not need Dolby Atmos/DTS-HD/DTS:X in order to get immersive sound experience from Movies.

Samsung Multiroom Apps is also very convenient to play songs from your Android or IOS phone. You can perform Soundbar setting through the Apps too, unfortunately this Apps does not allow you to switch Sound Mode, which you still need remote control. This Apps is required for firmware update.

    Overall, I like this products.
This item was purchased for MYR1600 from Malaysia Retailer in 2017. The reviewer still owns this product.

    • Require external subwoofer for floor-shaking experience.
