I am 60 years old and haven't had a high end system for the last 32 years when I sold my Quad 405 with ESL57, Thorens 160 etc. When the CD came out I remember coming to the US from the UK and buying a unit and one CD. Then I got married and had to have something the wife could operate!
I'm living the US now and happened to stop by this store in Champaign, IL called Glenn Poors Audio Video. Got chatting with Geoff Poor who thought he could find me a used Quad 405. I got excited and started to do some research and what I should expect to pay...and through my research I stumbled across the Rega Brio. So the next day I went back to the store and Geoff had one so we fired it up and everything people say about this amplifier is true. It's a very clean sound but also very defined and warm. Some other units I listened to were too bright for my taste. I tested it with a number of speaker combinations including the PSB Imagine B which I really liked more so than the Rega R5. But what sealed the deal for me were the GoldenEar Triton 7. For $1400 they have some great features including High Velocity Folded Ribbon tweeter. And to complete the system for now I also purchased the Rega Apollo-R CD player.
