That's right, I went there. Uh huh.
And it was utterly glorious! Every single, solitary, stoopid, Bay-drenched minute of is was an utter joy. It is certainly one of my action movie highlights as its rammed full of insane set pieces - the first car chase (where cars were being hurled!), the swirling 360 degree shoot out in the Haitian's house, the flying bodies in the hearse chase and the final Cuba-based shoot out......all of them were bat poop crazy, over the top, cut to shreds, but all of them brilliantly realised (unlike some of the Transformers set pieces, you could still suss out what on earth was going on!!!!).
And of course, the humour was spot on too. The scene where a potential suitor for Marcus' daughter comes a calling, had me in stitches - that kid sold it!!!!! Ok, the scene with the ex was a little unnecessary and was the only scene for me where the humour felt forced. But the rest of the film hit my funny bone pretty darn consistently.
Oh I know loads of people hate this film but for me, it was eye and ear candy of the highest order. Smith at his most charming, Lawrence finally realising he's not an action hero but a comedian and Joey Pants.....love the Pants!!! They made the police look cool for crissakes (that whole final scene with the manning up, tooling up and setting up just made me want to be a copper......). Loved it loved it loved it loved it loved it.
A great transfer was expected and that's what we got. Pure eye and ear porn - nicely grainy, bright bold colours, bags of detail, it's all there. The lossless 5.1 track is suitably bombastic, although strangely there appeared to be more LFE in the music than in some of the gunshots! Extras are recycled from the DVD but actually are ok (I checked a couple of the featurettes out for old times sake - the one on the Genesis was interesting as you do realise how much of a novice Bay was in the first one!).
Summary - oh my, what a glorious flick! Horribly OTT in almost every way imaginable, but it worked for me, cor blimey did it. Great disc too, even better for being picked up for £10 with the first film as well! Nice
