Nintendo Switch User Review

    Great piece of tech...
Review of Nintendo Switch Games Console by KirkSi, Mar 21, 2017.
This is a great piece of tech if you think of it as a portable gaming solution that you can also dock to your TV.

Nintendo produce some gaming experiences that you just can't get elsewhere and for me that was enough to buy this console to supplement my XBox One. Would I have bought this as my sole console? No. For my gaming needs I prefer the exclusives on XBox and also buy my multi-plats there but this scratches an itch that the PS4 and Xb1 don't. I bought this for family fun gaming and I'm very hopeful that it's going to work out well.

At the moment it's a bit difficult to rate the console comprehensively as it's a bit of a one trick pony. It's a Zelda machine so far. Zelda Breath of the Wild is a very, very good game and I feel myself being drawn back to it more and more (think I've got around 50 hours in it so far) and it works well wherever I've played it. At home I put it on a 55" 4K TV using a Pro controller and it looks and plays great. On the go I tend to disconnect the joycons and put them in the included grip and use the kick stand for the screen and that works equally as well. I was suprised how good the joycons in the grip actually works, had I known I might not have bought the Pro controller.

The games I'm waiting for though are the ones we'll play as a family. Mario Kart, Arms and Super Mario Odyssey. If this does get better 3rd party support then great, but for me I bought this mainly for the Nintendo exclusives and so far I'm very happy with it. The only problems with it so far for me is the relatively short battery life when using it in portable mode (about 2.5 hours) and the fact that the charge dock is at the bottom so you can't use the stand and charge at the same time (some 3rd party stands are coming out that will allow this though).
This item was purchased for £279.99 from Amazon UK in 2017. The reviewer still owns this product.
