Disney's relentless march to milk it's latest cash cow continues
Review of Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi Movie by MrOpinionated, Dec 20, 2017.
I just want to put this out I am a Star wars Fan.... there I said it I have enjoyed the films over the years and probably most problematically read a lot of the Expanded Universe Books so I have a very skewed idea of what new Star Wars should look like. That said however I cannot believe what unfolded before eyes as I sat in my perfectly positioned seat at my local cinema. It's Star Wars Jim but not as we know it....
Right from the opening salvo with Poe winding up Hux I was expecting Rick Moranis to make a cameo as Dark Helmet. Hux was supposed to be a maniacal dictator not a comedy foil to the equally bland Kylo (Anakin wannabe) Ren. I am sure Adam Driver is a fine actor but this performance actually made Hayden Christensen's portrayal of Anakin look deep and conflicted. A summary of the key subplots goes like:

    Snoke - WTF
    Hux - Joke
    Kylo - Conflicted, Angry, Wooden
    Leia - Meh
    Luke - Funny in parts
Rey - Yeah a female lead
    Finn - Pointless
Poe - Maverick from Top Gun... except Tom Cruise did it better

The storyline was there only to clear the decks so that Disney can go anywhere they like within the Star Wars universe as they have manage to sever all links to the past. So expect more Batman & Robin style films and far less of the the splendid story telling that we saw in Rogue One. Left the cinema feel hollow and empty, not angry, not happy, just empty.
