Yamaha RX-AS710D user review

  • Big sound in a slim piece of hardware.

Replacing a Denon 3808 for a 4K compatible AVR and in hope to gain space, I was a little worried about the sound quality of such a little Amp. Big suprise, I didn't feel any disappointment. I even like the Yamaha sound a bit better than Denon's.
Very happy about it as it lacks only Atmos/DTS:X which I don't feel the need.

Careful on one thing : Out of the box and even with the latest FW (1.89 at the date of writing this) you'll have HDR only in 24 and 30 fps in 4K resolution (as well as a limitation to 4:2:2 12bit).

In order to get full specs of hdmi 2.0a, you need to go in the advanced settings and switch off "MON.CHK" and switch HDMI mode.
This item was purchased for 699€ from Elecson KLS Paris in 2016 . The reviewer still owns this product.

    Pros

    • HDMI 2.0a HDCP 2.2 (on 3 of 6 inputs)
    • Slim size
    • Sound of a big amp
    • Excellent connectivity (Spotify and almost every streaming service + Bluetooth + Airplay + DLNA + SMB)
    • Very nice design

    Cons

    • Lacks Atmos/DTS:X for those interested.
    • Why not the 6 inputs with HDMI 2.0a / HDCP 2.2 ?
    • The options to get the full hdmi specs are not explained correctly in the manual
