SPECTRE User Review

    Almost Quantum Of Solace 2....
Review of SPECTRE movie by Jenz, Oct 27, 2015.
Spectre tries hard to match the superb Casino Royale but fails to even match Skyfall.

The film has nothing particularly wrong with the movie, it's enjoyable entertainment but doesn't quite have the overall quality of Casino and Skyfall.

It's all over the place with what it wants to be; Serious Bond? Bourne Copy? Gritty Actioner or Lighthearted Moore style?

It's too long, and Bond basically isn't very heroic, nor as my wife complained he's doesn't take his shirt off or where his Budgie Smugglers.

A very poor villain, some weak CGI, some moments that are totally random, and a weak overall plot arc that tries hard to shoehorn in the last three films don't help.

Ultimately Spectre is currently for me third in the Craig series to-date:
    1. Casino Royale
    2. Skyfall
    3. Spectre
    4. Quantum Of Solace

    Pros

    • DB10
    • M
    • Moneypenny
    • Train Fight

    Cons

    • Christoph Waltz
    • The Totally Random Mouse
    • The Theme Song
    • The CGI Octopus
    • The One Bullet Exploding Secret Lair

    Verdict

    7

Not disagreeing with much of that I too felt it was a little too long and bloated but did love the nods to the previous films/story lines.

      On your cons:

      1) The random mouse - the purpose of this was to expose the hidden room at L'Americain which up until then they'd not found.
      2) The one bullet exploding lair - do you mean the bit in Mexico, he shoots the brief case which has the bomb inside causing the explosion.

I think they could have done more with the car chase as that seemed undercooked, especially with the phone call going on during it.

Jenz: So the entire plot progresses on Bond spotting a mouse....

Jenz: No. The Crater Lair in Africa that isn't on any map. He shoots a gas pipe and the whole Site explodes. As an IT Professional/Part time tyrannical evil villain I have to ask Christophe "Seriously man where was your DR Design?"

I liked the mouse, it was just a way of allowing him to spot / consider a fake wall, and quite a nice scene. Criticising a Bond film for corny plot devices is a bit like ordering cod and them complaining that it's too fishy.

Agree with all your other pros / cons though. I'd add Madeleine White to the cons list, nothing much very positive to say about her character. 7/10 is fair, I'd probably go with 8/10.

I loved the Totally Random Mouse!

He should return. And he served as much function in the plot as Monica "shag me quickly even though trained killers are coming in 5 minutes" Bellucci.

For me I couldn't wait for the end. Perhaps I was expecting too much. Christoph Waltz is an amazing actor and did what he could with the role, but did anyone walk away from the film thinking the character he played was some awesome powerful terrifying villain? Nope, neither did I!

Maybe I missunderstood the torture scene as well. I thought Bond was meant to lose his coordination and his ability to balance, and then the ability to recognise people. So it was sweet when he recognised the girl, who happens to fall in love with him after several days. But when he then escapes and is able to run and shoot single handedly it was just utter rubbish.

Oh and the straight to sex moments aren't just stupid. Monica Bellucci appears in it for 45 seconds and after 42 of them ends up sleeping with James. And then on the train, after the fight scene, some how after not getting on they just get down to it. I know the classics did these but it worked then, it didn't work here.

One last thing, anyone notice the massive similarities between this and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol??

I think Daniel Craig is an amazing Bond. Loved Casino Royal and Skyfall. I do hope he comes back.
