VBox XTi3340 User Review

advertised functionality does not work - avoid
Review of VBox XTi3340 personal video recorder by sol3au, Feb 26, 2015.
VBoxcomm.com claims this box allows watching TV channels on Smart TVs or via game console and recording tv channels via USB attached drive.

    NONE OF THIS WORKS!!!

Smart TVs and game consoles like PS3 use DLNA media servers. But the Vbox DLNA implementation is nonstandard, and no smart tv or game console will use it. Which makes it completely useless and what they claim on their web site is nothing short of fraud.

USB attached storage recording also does not work as Vbox does not recognise any drives. Whatever you plug in, it just says no storage is connected. I tried 9 different drives ranging from 2.5" USB, flash disk drives, to 3.5" external powered drives. None of them worked with Vbox.

You are stuck with recording to network storage if that option is available to you else you are completely out of luck. Also trying to program recording when away from home is difficult and if you get it working is completely unsecured. There is no password you can set to limit access, anyone can get in!! Long time since I have seen such mickey mouse product!! Avoid this unless you want to watch tv at home on your mobile, while sitting next to your tv, as this will sort of work (if you don't mind pieces of menus never cleared over your picture). Why you would want to though??

I have reservations about the quality of the recordings too. There appears to be some loss of quality. Also fast moving picture gets turned into lines. That may be player issue though. Did not test this fully yet.

In conclusion this is an incomplete, unfinished product which simply does not have the functionality the manufacturer claims.
This item was purchased for € 158 from Vboxcomm.com in 2015. The reviewer still owns this product.
