Hisense 65XT910 user review

  • A cracking tv, the led tv of oled.(curved screen)

After months of searching for a set that would please me after my plasma died I spent many a hour looking at tvs from oled to led (plasma is dead) And at first there was no competition the oled just blew me away.

So i was lucky to have a friend that worked in a big chain and was able to go and spend many hours watching oled tv where i discovered the flaws of which i could net get away from and the more i watched the more i noticed and the more i looked for the next issue/issues.
And that was game over for oled for me.

So 4x Samsung and 4x Sony 2015 model lcd/led backlit tvs come and went from my house as they was covered in banding and dse and that for me is a big no no (all tvs was in the 3k to 3.2k mark).

I was advised by a member (panman40) on here that the Hisense might be worth a look and 2.3k with fald it was worth a punt.

So the Hisense XT910 Was in the house and set up, not sure what to expect i was pleased the build quality was great and as good as the others i had been used to.
Set up was easy and problem free.

Once started up you get the option of 3 modes, the manual suggests home mode and has no mention of the premium option, Premium being the best quality and brightest option, but calibrated to the correct cdm this is no issues.

Now the nitty gritty, I could see that certain modes(Everything apart from theatre mode) was over saturated greatly.

And i selected theatre mode which I knew had issues as reported on the forum by other members, I could see the issues and that mode was not usable for me.(colour banding hue off on all colours)

Issue caused by adjusting cms to far in the red channel.

    no issues

So i went about testing the modes with my I1 pro 3 and Chromapure and could see that natural was the next most accurate out of box(even with the colours over top) so i went about calibration and managed to get the greyscale tracking and all colour delta errors below the threshold of 3, and flattened the gamma to 2.28 with a cdm with 140, the lack of no gamma adjustment other than the use of the 10pt controls was not the best but it worked and did the job, The cms Needed to be used with caution as certain colours green and yellow effected each other and adjusting hue and saturation to much could cause blocking in colours, If you dropped the red saturation more than -1 it introduced blocking in certain levels of red.

If you adjust the yellow hue to much it effects the green hue, so a balance must be found.
(all of this was on the original firmware)

Once the firmware was updated to the latest(which not all countries got f1211) things in theatre mode had been sorted and it was now usable and with my meter i could also see it was more accurate than before and once calibrated all delta errors on Greyscale was below 1 and all delta errors on colours was well below 3, and I have since used this mode.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN PICS ABOVE AND BELOW.

The cms must still be used with caution as its still the same but it can be pushed a tad more than the previous firmware, yellow still effects green, and red saturation you must watch as it still causes blocking.
Example, (this is extreme as i pushed saturation down to -10 to show it, but it doesnt start to block untill -4 on saturation which is no issus as thetre mode only needs -1 adjustment) and I will add that other modes seem to be less effected and the cms can be pushed a bit more, but yelow and green needs fine adjustment(that balance mentioned above)

Pushed to -10 saturation but -5 is very it starts and not as bad as the picture but its there.

Blacks on this set are just sublime and as good as any plasma i have seen and to my eye will give and Oled a run for its money, as is the picture it produces with decent content be that bluray or 4k from usb or Netflix, sky HD suffers from the same issues as most tvs do.

JUST A FEW PICS OF BLACKS

A couple downsides is black bars can sometimes not be as black as they could be(hopefully this is something Hisense could sort with firmware) And also on end credits this is where you will most likely see some haloing.

4K looks out of this world and 3d looks fantastic and nice and bright unlike plasma active 3d.

Screen uniformity is by far the best i have seen from an lcd/led i have owned(one very very minor band far left) and slight darkening of corners(this has improved slightly) My dad also owns the same set and his uniformity is better again with no banding at all.

Motion on the set i find very good(coming from plasma and using sony and samsung led) and the usm(ultra smooth motion) can cause artifacting if used on high, low seems ok but can add soap opera effect.

Viewing angles is one of the biggest surprises to me coming from plasma, the set does very well.

The biggest downside on the set is the lack of an independent gamma control.

Netflix built in works and looks fantastic, and Hope fully amazon prime and HDR support is to be added in the next firmware as promised by Hisense to a lot of members.

Other members have had issues with stutter using any hdmi port FOR 4K content and this is due to be sorted in the up and coming firmware promised by Hisense.

The apps are basic so if you want lots of apps this tv is not for you but i find it works with no issues.

Sound quality from the set is very good and will please most.

This review is done using my eyes and not all eyes and brains see things the same, SEE IT FOR YOUR SELF, Hope this helps others.

AND A FEW PICTURES IN GENERAL FROM BLU-RAY AND SKY HD.

    4K via usb

All pictures are just for show representation purposes.

Once the new firmware comes with hdr and amaon prime, I will update the review to reflect this and if any other problems occur.

    Update, 1st sept 2016,
Hdr mode is here along with promised updates to utube 4k and amazon(although i have had them on previous update)
this update converts the xt910 to the 2016 model software vidaa lite 2.

heres some pics, different picture modes to and a few added aditions.

Great review of a great TV, just a shame the firmware issues let it down but hopefully Hisense will come up with the goods , if they do I doubt there'll be much to touch this at < £2k ( apart from this years Hisense TV's)

Quick question, how is WiFi connectivity doing on this TV? Can it connect to 5GHz network? ac standard?

I Believe someone tried and it can do 5ghz, I would try but i dont think my sky
    router is 5ghz.
