    Hi,

I really fancy watching a good zombie movie. I've seen The Evil Dead but wanted something a bit more 'City' based.....zombies running riot in a city type of thing. I also wanted something a bit more modern and believable (if thats possible)

    Anyone got ant recommendations?

Can you get that on DVD? :suicide:

I've thought about Zombie Holocaust or Zombie Flesheaters, neither of which I've seen, but i'm assuming that being old films they are a bit 'cheesy'......am i right? or am i wrong?

I've got Zombie Flesh Eaters, quite amusing- it's got this girl just standing there whilst a zom walks VERY VERY slowly towards her, and bites her neck.

Would you just stand there gawping?:rotfl:

Braaaaainss!! Can concure that Demons is a great film, although not zombies in the strictest sense.
what about Day of the Dead, not a patch on the first two in Romero's Dead Trilogy but the most modern.
Although I've not seen it (yet) 28 days later is supposed to be great and is out on dvd very soon and was made last year.

Oooh, someone has to say Nightmare City.

Cheesy? Yes. Old fashioned? I suppose....

But action packed and violent and includes zombies creating havoc in a city, oh yes. And cheap on PLAY.

Can't go wrong with Dawn of The Dead, either.

    Anyone remember Zombies Lake ?

Think it was a French film about German soldier zombies coming from a lake.

Saw it on video back in the early 80s.

Really naf. Maybe you want to avoid this one

Any of the dead series get my reccomendation. Maybe just maybe we'll see Romero helming dead reckoning in the future.

Favourite zombie flicks of mine would be

    (Zombi)Dawn of The Dead
    The Beyond
    City of the Living Dead
    House by The Cemetery
    Shockwaves
    Burial Ground
    Zombi 2/Zombie/Zombie Flesheaters
    Zeder
    Zombie 3
    Nightmare City
    Return of the living Dead
Return of the Living Dead 3
    Re-Animator
    Re-Animator 2
    Zombie Creeping Flesh
    Living Dead at Manchester Morgue

Be warned though, most of them were made in the late 70's/early-mid 80's so they're products of their time with: bad makeup effects, OTT gore, dreadful characters, terrible scripts, bad acting.... everything you want from a zombie flick. I wouldn't have them any other way.

Weren't the Re-Animator movies about bringing dead animals back to life, or has my memory gone kaput?

Re-Animator is a true classic 80s horror film... the uncut version, naturally, is the one to go for.

If you're a fan of Evil Dead, then Re-Animator should be right up your alley. There's some very funny scenes, and some really great horror. And if you get the Region 1 DVD, you get the infamous "head" scene. (unless I'm mistaken, that's the only cut left in the UK version) To give you some idea, Evil Dead 2 and Re-Animator are both in my top 10 absolute favorites. It's not a zombie movie in the traditional respect, but by the end if it, it ends up being a big zombie fight.

I got the Millenium Edition DVD last week, so I've been heavily steeped in Reagent ever since. :zonked:

Also, Dawn of the Dead is a great flick too. My favorite of the traditional zombie movies.

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a fantastic horror character, worth watching Re-Animator for his performance alone.

Might also be worth checking out The Attic Expeditions (Horror In The Attic in the UK), it's supposed to be pretty good and Combs never lets you down.

BTW, Rambo's list was pretty much definitive.

I got my copy of Re-animator from Play.com for £17.99. Not a great price, but it took less than 24 hours to arrive on my doorstep!!! (I'm still shocked at that)

Yeah, Jeffrey Combs has incredible delivery and was born to play Herbert West. One of his best lines is simply him saying his name: "West... Herbert West."

I agree Braindead should be added to this list. Fits right alongside the Evil Dead / Re-Animator genre.
