I've just seen on the news that the Mugabe governments strategy of home clearing is leaving between 200,000 and 1m people homeless (depending on the reporting agency - 200,000 UN reports, 800,000 the Zimbabwe opposition, 1m Kate Hoey on ITV lunchtime news)

The homes in question are of course not what we would usually call homes, but generally shanty towns occupied by the poorest people in that country.

There was even talk of troops burning UN aid in front of the homeless as they sheltered in the remains of their houses.

In all the talk by Live8 and the G8 of 'making poverty history', how can this be allowed to happen to some of the very people that they are hoping to help?

Or can you make poverty history by allowing dictators to kill all the poor people?

Did the report mention the lack of oil reserves and so the western world is not really interested?

There must be means by which we can get rid of Mugabe but look what happened when we intervened to get rid of Saddam

    Truly unbelievable behaviour.

Changing subject slightly, but on a similar vein. Why on earth are we allowing the Sri Lankan goverment to charge Oxfam £500,000 to import 25 4x4's to assist in their own recovery following the tsunami.

The world is definitely going mad.
