ZIDOO - Z10 PRO - Z9X - Z1000 PRO - UHD 3000 - NEO A - NEO S - NEO X - Dolby Vision - Owners Thread

If I wanted to go back to 6.2.5 Should I follow your procedure for returning FW as outlined on your web page (My Zidoo Z1000 PRO.... (FW 6.2.5)) Then use the .img file listed and if I'm reading this correctly the .img file will reset the Z1000pro to FW 6.0.22. Can I then go directly to FW 6.2.5 without installing the other FW updates in-between?

@Sodesfuex

hopefully a firmware friday ……..and a few more tick boxes have been resolved 👍

A projector owner here, how is the HDR. TO SDR./tone mapping qaulity with these players any good?

I’ve been reading various threads and reviews but it just ends up a right muddle.
I currently have a Oppo 205 and rip 4K movies to bdmv folders on a Nas box, these play perfectly as though I’d put the disc in the player, menus / forced subs / HDR etc.
likewise up to 1080 my htpc with Jriver plays back folder rips flawlessly but stumbles on 4K. Between the two I can cover most cases but I would like a media player to do the same (if possible) in a second location on the network, is this possible?
I don’t need DV ( screens don’t handle it) and only need forced subs.
which media box out of the Dunes/Zidoo or Zappiti gives the best folder playback?
or am I better off buying a nuc that can run 4K folders via Jriver?
Hopefully someone can give me the straight answers I need please.
Thanks.

But there is an adjustments menu for HDR to SDR, can you not compensate using those?

Hi, the HDR to SDR for 4k files downgrade gives a really dark image on my Optoma HD80 projector. Native 1080p files are fine.
isn't there an adjustment setting in the player to compensate for that? in saying that my projector is a jvc dla-x7900.....looks i'm stuck with the HTPC/Madvr. solution for HDR TO SDR. for now.

Is my post above not visible? Not being funny but it doesn't show up in my "your content" tab which I have reported as a Forum bug.

Yes, there are adjustments for the HDR conversion in the Zidoo - I've not had a play with them yet but I will later and report back......

yes that was visible, but i was just looking for more details , as the above user has got projector, and wanted to hear from him if he treid those setting with any success on a projector, please if u could report back your finding about HDR. TO SDR bt2020. thanks.

SDR is REC709, not BT2020 AFAIK so the Zidoo needs to do colour-space conversion.

I'll check later when I get a chance (tied up sorting out bath waste pluming ATM)!

im sure that the zidoo has (HDR to SDR Rec.2020 mode) it's there in the setting options if u look for it, so what it do's exactly in this mode, is that it convert HDR TO SDR, but keeps the color space (rec2020) untouched

I find the same.
I have an Epson TW3200 (1080p) and I find the images quite dark for the 4K converted files. Not found any setting or tweak that helps yet.

Displaying on my 50” 4K HDR TV and the image is stunning but a bit small compared to the 120” Projected Image.

Its not comparing like for like though and the old Epson PJ isn’t that bright. However, it’s fine for BluRay and DVD playback.
Guess it might be time to replace it or get a bigger TV!

Steve.

Simple straight answer is that none of these android boxes will be as good as the Oppo for BDMV folder playback. But if you have to choose one then Dune is the best of the three for folder playback. These days I mostly use just use my Cambridge Audio player which like the Oppo is efficient as a Blu-ray player, albeit without picture wall.

As far as I am aware Jriver creates its own menu structure and does not support Java BDMV folders, so the experience would not be the same.

Well besides the fact that I did factory reset cause it tries to boot from the USB I used to flash the firmware with lol, the Blu-ray menu seems to work well.

OMG! Not you too.

I did the same.

Note to anyone doing an update via the USB input, see here:

And read onward :)

I always just reboot box a few times then unplug from the Mains
then power back on .
Never have had any issues .
There seems to be a lot of fixes and options in H.Tv4 settings . 😊

It can apply to Windows as well, it's just something I forgot about. No big deal, the source scanning is very quick and the matches are very accurate with only a few incorrect matches for each of my shares.

Thanks for that, trying to get straight information from the net sometimes is a very frustrating task.

I had been looking at the Zidoo/Zappiti/Dune models but couldn’t work out which did what and having had several of the smart series units way back for MkV and BDMV streaming with decent results its good to hear they are best for folder playback and I can stick with a brand I know.
You had me doubting myself with Jriver as I haven’t played much 1080 stuff lately but having just checked it plays with full menus and not menu lite as far as I can tell, in that the options are not just generic. Unless I don’t know what I’m talking about 😂 very probable.
But with the lack of availability of PC gear at the moment I might put that side on hold for a while and do some more research into whether onboard graphics can do 4K hdr.

Yeah that's no longer the case. I have an Oppo clone box which has served me well and is a brilliant DV ISO/Folder playback device. But todays firmware release for the z1000 pro makes this just about on par with it.

I've just noticed a subtle but important improvement to how the device handles multiple discs from the same movie or movie series now. I'm pretty certain I won't be bothering too much with Kodi, especially if they get TV series scraping sorted.

@ian34g the Oppo you already does exactly what you need. The Oppo for me was only part of the solution along with the Shield. I think the latest firmware has clinched it for me. This offers me the most complete movie playing environment and hopefully in the future that will also apply to TV series.

No mention of a fix for the CEC problem 😢

Don't know why this box (Z9X) has the issue, my old X9s never had any CEC problems and none of my kit has changed since then.....

I think most of us always turn off CEC features as they are always problematic. For those of us with Harmony remotes (which also can be a PITA) CEC is a thing of the past.
