Hello all ,

Picked up an 08 zafira cdti elite last week .

No matter what we do we can't get it to blow out cold air .

Setting it on low or 16 degrees still blows out warm air Not just air from out side either, it feels heated . It's the same temp as if it was set hi at 28 degrees.

Air con is on according to the controls display.

Does it just need regasing or dies it sound like something more in depth.?

Picture of the unit type below ....

Vauxhall dealer said try disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting after half hour to see if it clears any control problem.

I am not convinced though....

Any help would be appreciated . Thanks.

Is that auto or manual air conditioning? Has it had the heater recall done?

Most likely a regas. Take it to an aircon specialist and they will diagnose the issue. Probably won't cost more than £40-60 for a diagnosis and a top up. Just topping it up at Halfords will cost nearly that and you'd be wasting money if it's something more serious..

The "auto" button, and that you can set it to low,16 to 28 makes it sound like full climate control. Older cars often need topping up every year BTW.

Woukd low gas make the air hot no Matter what setting ?

No it would just be warm ambient temperature. If it's had the recall done then take it back as they've clearly messed something up. Most like the hot/cold actuator stuck or broken so its always diverting air over the heater matrix.

The problem with that is that I took it straight back today and they said its nothing they have done . They replaced the resistor and motor and added some sort of moulding. They said nothing they would have done would have caused this problem .

The problem is I can't prove it as the Mrs didn't check the aircon when she bought it.

Also,

The place we bought it from removed the resistor unit as they found out about the recal , and we're going to do the job them sleeves but didn't have the part .

Mrs then decided we would get main dealer to do it so we took it to main dealer with the resistor already out.

Gonna be problem this isn't it. .. I can just see it ...

You... bought... another... Zafira...

Sorry, can't help :p

Seriously though, I think the heater issue is different from the aircon issue. Now you have had the recall done can you take it back to where you bought it from and ask them to sort out the aircon?

I didn't buy it .. I didn't want it .. But you know women!

I think that's the plan .. Yo take it back to the place we bought it but I am not sure if that's gonna help .

We did get a warranty but I doubt it covers aircon ..

Was it advertised as having air conditioning? If so presumption would be that it should be working.

Shouldn’t take them long to gas it up and test from there.

Then just call them and arrange for it to be sorted.

Ok so garage we bought car from Says it's the rehostat, not sure of spelling.

They say it's defiantly something main dealer has messed up so they are not gonna touch it .

Main dealer says nothing they would have done would have caused the problem as they changed a resistor and a motor plus put in some sort of extra water proofing .

Found out today the car isn't even one that needed to be recalled either as it has climate control and not standard aircon .

So we are now stuck. Main dealer says for 108 pounds they will look to see what the problem is . Then if and a big if they find
it was them, do the job .

Of course I don't really trust them or the original garage.

Been recomened a mobile mechanic that will charge 35 to come and see what the issue is.

Thinking this might be best option .

They could then do a report if it was main dealer and we could go back to them agsin.

Oh this sort of thing does my head in !

Perhaps a daft question but are you sure it has AC? The photo of your centre console doesn't have a button with AC on it to switch it on and off. As weird as it sounds, some manufacturers did sell climate control without AC. I got stung like that myself ones, I saw CC and I just assumed it had AC.

You will find air con is likely wear and tear.
I would have it regassed (as above, will cost £40 or £50) and see if this solves the cold air issue.
When the Air Con is regassed, they use a green dye to look for any leaks, so after a day or two check the pipe work and condenser on the front for leaks

But he only just got the car so can return it etc because it’s not as advertised.

Don’t think returning it is an option now they’ve done some work to it.

You are presuming that the advert stated the car had air con, the advert may not of.
i would get the air con re-gassed first, and take it from there

The ad is linked above. It states it has air con.

As I mentioned before, looking at the pictures I can't see any aircon button, the pictures in the add doesn't have it on there either. I would have thought the top left of the climate control section should have had an aircon on/off button if this car has airconditioning.

But I might be wrong :) However that is where I would start and check whether it actually has it in the first place...

Hopefully I'm wrong...It should have the on/off button in the electronic display. Make certain it is set to on, there are some weird people who switch it off :p

Electronic climate control system - Climate control - Opel Zafira Owners Manual - Opel Zafira - Opel manuals

Kwik Fit had a policy where if when your air con was re gassed it wasn't any cooler there would be no charge

might be worth a visit to see if they still have the same policy
