Is it just me or is the Z2 significantly worse with PAL DVD's than NTSC?

I would say NTSC quality is very good..... PAL is average and sometimes poor.

I am talking about noise on the picture and visible panel structure (looks like vertical scan lines... not vertical banding.. not sure as I'm no expert).

    any thoughts or insights?

    best regards as always

mine isnt any worse than one than the other...... but im feeding both from my pc at native resolution so maybe thats the matter and the Z2 happens to do poorly with pal deinterlacing (which we already suspect)

HK30... via PAL PS and interlaced.

I have tried other DVD players tho... it's definitely the Z2.

I'm not saying it's a fault. I agree with buns. Just curious as to why this is the case.

I guess Sanyo gave more thought to USA and Japan .... as is very often the case with many AV companies.

Not really looking forward to putting SKY through it now :(

    cheers

I can’t say I have noticed any consistent differences betwixt pal and ntsc. But then again I try to avoid looking for noise :) Not too keen to try a comparison in case I can’t reset my brain! :D

I've got my sky connected and its watchable but you dont realise how bad quality some of the sky channels are until you use a pj. Mind you I'm only connected using s-vid so there is room for improvement there.

Not much room for improvement though :( I find Sky and DTT are bad enough on a 28inch WS TV, never mind on a projector. If only we could dump 1 or 2 hundred of the shopping channels and have a decent bitrate, even if just for the main channels. I always thought us Brits / Europeans would push for quality rather than quantity with digital TV, but the majority of people don't seem bothered. It's sad to say, but the analogue version of BBC1 looks better than the digital on a projector (obviously no widescreen though), low bitrate mpeg artefacts are terrible on a 100" screen.

But QVC's diamondique looks so good that big

Given the quality, or lack of, on digital and the light control issue I'm still amazed that some people use a projector as their only display.
