I am completely new to this, i am buying some new equipment purely because of a jealous reaction experienced when someone told me about their living room. i was getting on fine without and now i can't go on without.

i have been told to buy the kef 1005 speaker package because it is the best value for my budget (its actually £300 more than my budget but who's counting except for my wife?)

and now i'm torn between the following amps

i listened to a ONKYO 600 - it was great but didn't have 6.1, i want 6.1 because it exists. that would set me back £300

the ONKYO 501 also comes in at 300 but is less powerful

then there is the Denon 1803/1804, which in terms of reviews on the web seems like a model to have faith in.

the tv is a tosh 32zd26 which comes highly recommended.

i started off wanting to spend £1300 in total, currently it is running at £1600 (damn kef) - am i spending my money wisely and which amp should i buy.

    thanks

    ian

IMhO i would only go for the kefs if your room(or wife) demands it.

otherwise a nice matched mission, wharfdale, or mShort, speaker package would no dout give you better sound.(altho you would need a sub)
    how much are the kef's?
    i like the denon amps.
and the tv is a good one.

kefs are £500 in the shops, £429 somewhere on the net. my wife likes the idea of small speakers. she also likes the idea of a smaller price but we are negotiating - i'm offering a new pair of shoes.

well in my opinion there is much better for the cash
but if wifey insists on things being small.
try and find somewhere to listen to them, and try a bigger set at the same time. then deside

well you could try mordaunt short 904 floor standers £199
    ms 905c center £100
    Ms 903's bipoler £99

the 904's are small floorstanders, and are quite qute.( fairly wife freindly)
that leaves 100 for a sub, try a second for that.

    or
the mission 72 cinema nice and cheep £300(FRONTS ARE BOOKSHELVE)
leaves more for a sub and includes the very nice 77ds rears

    or
    warfedale diamond speakers screne4
    same price as above

I once listened to a package by eltax, and was plesantly surprised. it was the chroma pack. Check hcc reviews.
i think the specifications are slightly different now. but they are available for 250 from qed-uk.com
