So we're at the halfway point of 2018, how is it shaping up for you? Personally for me its been a pretty good start and here's my top 10 at the moment.

      10. Unsane - Steven Soderbergh's mind-bending thriller. Claire Foy is great.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-6-31.png

      9. Ghost Stories - Jump scare central but extremely effective and built on an interesting premise.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-6-55.png

      8. Mollys Game - We'll see how it fares on a repeat watch, but at the time I got really swept up in it.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-7-24.png

      7. Three Billboards - excellent story, characters, script and performances.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-8-26.png

      6. The Phantom Thread - Stunning performance from DDL, masterful direction and a fascinating character study.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-8-56.png

      5. I Tonya - As with Mollys Game, a repeat watch might change my mind but I found it engrossing from start to finish.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-9-14.png

      4. Hereditary- chilling and brilliantly acted horror debut that gets better in my mind the more I think about it.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-9-50.png

      3. Annihilation- first class science fiction in every department and gets better and better.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-10-13.png

      2. Avengers Infinity War - I tried hard not to include blockbusters in my list but there's no avoiding it; simply an incredible experience and a huge pay-off to anyone invested in the MCU.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-10-36.png

      1. A Quiet Place - Its very rare for me to leave the cinema genuinely exhilarated, but this did it. Awesome high-concept horror executed flawlessly.
      upload_2018-6-28_10-11-1.png

Honorable mentions: Sicario 2, Love Simon, Black Panther, Tully, Hostiles, Deadpool 2

      Biggest disappointments: Downsizing, Cloverfield, Mute

One of the worst years for me in a long while only three of these actually came out this year Hereditary, Annihilation and A Quiet Place.

I usually wait until films get a home release so I haven't seen that much from this year but these are the films of 2018 that I loved.

      This is everything else.

From 6-9 I liked and would still recommend; everything else I didn't.

I flitted between thinking You Were Never Really There was genius and a Phoenix naval gazing vanity project.

Yep I liked it although not as much as his early films this felt like it was a bit heeded on how well you are up on Greek mythology and the like to get the most out of it.

I didn’t have a good time with Mother on first viewing and thought it was sign-posted far to easily on what was going on, but the second time I loved it especially has I paid more attention to Lawrence’s character and was bowled over at how they used her whole range of mood swings and how well they incorporated them into the affect it had on the house.

You know what, I did the same. 1st time I watched it and thought ok... there has to be more than this, so then second time round, i paid more attention and I realized that she never leaves the house and never wears any shoes also.

Didn't think i'd seen many 2018 films to even make a list but, checking my records, I have 11 so far:rolleyes::blush:

Of those 11, the only ones worthy of specific praise would be

      Ready Player One
      A Quiet Place
      Darkest Hour

I'll use this thread to make a note of a few movies i've missed that I want to see.

I've seen 33 (really rinsing my cineworld membership :D) so some more recommendations for you, best to worst:

      2018 Ranked

Everything up to 25 is something I'd at least partially recommend.

Whittling it down to ones I've actually really enjoyed (at least an 8/10), I only have 4.

      4. Three Billboards
      3. Tully
      2. Molly's Game
      1. A Quiet Place (best film I've seen for years)

Yeah, not many 8/10 out there presently but the odd unknown low budget film does provide good entertainment (Why, haven't I heard of this one in the media) A Quiet Place reminds me of a low budget film currently on Netflix called *Here Alone* which I have watched twice.

      1. Ready Player One
      2. Game Night
      3. Super Troopers 2

Quite surprising considering the hero movies that have been released but there was just something in them that seemed to dim the experience or just flat out kill it for me personally.

I think that there is being clever and being too clever, loved Ready Player One which was a surprise for me and one that my son recommend as we are both gamers (well he kicks my ass on that front)
