So I've almost completed my dedicated home cinema room. I'll showcase some photos when I'm finished, but I wanted to get members' opinions on their best/favourite films. What is your go-to movie for testing or show casing your home cinema system? Which film do you feel is a great test of visual and sound effects?

I'm looking forward to some great answers :)

I always like using the first Transformers. Specifically the scene with the attack on the base and when they call in the air support a bit later in the film. A good use of surround and a wide frequency range is used.

I think any action film is good.

Years ago (pre Atmos) I used to play the submarine film U571. The beginning part where the German sub is being attacked was amazing. It had great silent parts where you could hear the men coughing and the metal of the sub creaking etc, then thunderous room shaking bass when the depth charges went off.
The film was 'so so', but the beginning sounded fantastic. Not sure how it holds up to todays films though.

More modern films I like to play Dunkirk, Skull Island or The Great Wall (all 4k with Atmos) in my cinema room.

My 'go to' movie when I upgrade something is Sucker Punch. The scene in the trenches in particular.

The 4K remaster of Blade Runner is great for both visuals and sound.

Whenever I change something on my sound system it's Galaxy Quest (1999) the scenes where a) they drift into a mine field (Do you have to hit every one of them?) b) the rock monster (it doesn't have a motivation).

For picture quality I always put on the Matrix (1999). Haven't really homed in on a 4k disc yet.

In both cases it's more about how the sound and picture "feel" than thinking they are the very best material I have technically.

Pacific Rim is my go to choice. Thundering sound track and great use of darks and neon colours in the Hong Kong attack scene.

I'm surprised. I thought the sound mix was pretty poor.

I'd say anything but Disney, I despise their mid-terrace mixes.

There was something lately that completely caught me off guard and I had to keep turning it down. Can't remember what it was though :) Possibly Transformers: The Last Knight.

I tend to only notice bad mixes these days :(

The Revenant has an excellent soundstage though.

Interstellar - Entering the wormhole and the scene with Gargantua at the end have huge amounts of detail and bass and IMAX framing.
Avatar - Attack on Hometree. Epic sound effects, music and visuals.
Bladerunner 2049 - All of it. An AV tour de force. The Vegas sequence has loads of fantastic audio and impressive visuals.
John Wick - The O Club if you fancy a highlight.
The Dark Knight - More Nolan visuals with Zimmer music. The opening scene is an obvious one to demo.
Thor 3 - Bright, colorful, fun film with a pumping synth soundtrack.

Probably on my own with this, but Moana on Blu-Ray looks and sounds incredible, especially on a 65" OLED and 5.1.4.

To show off the visuals, you might try just playing a bit of "Godless" on Netflix - it's possible the finest-looking piece of HDR material I've yet seen.

Wonder Woman - the bit where she first uses her power bracelets (I forget their name) when being attacked by her aunt. That bit is a proper test of your bass

The Greatest Showman - Mrs C loves this film. I’m not such a fan, but the soundtrack is fantastic.

Fast and Furious 8 - amazing visuals and a proper pumping soundtrack

As previously mentioned by others - BR 2049, Pacific Rim, Incredible Hulk, Interstellar and Thor: Ragnarok are all excellent

The BluRay I always love and show off to friends n family for the pure sound is "Heat". If you want to show off your speakers the part where they have just robbed the bank and the extremely long and non stop gun battle through the streets !!
It really does showcase a good sound system, great oldie but goody film as well

Visually - Life Of Pie is up there for me. A fantastic mix of CGI and live action.

Sound - Band of Brothers. Though technically not a film, this equals, if not over shadows, Saving Private Ryan, as one of the best surround sound experiences.

It has to be Mad Max: Fury Road in 4K with Atmos for me. Just shows off everything about your AV system. Visually as well as sound performance is just awesome!
