What's the best speaker bargains you've ever picked up?

For me it has to be a pair of Celestion 7000 speakers at a local auction. Picked them up for 25 quid and they sold instantly on ebay for the Buy It Now of 250. Dunno what they were worth but it's a rather tidy profit.

My mate found some old celestion speakers at the car boot for a tenner and sold them for 160 quid on ebay.

The best bargain speakers that I've actually USED had to be a mint condition pair of TDL RTL3 that I got for 130 quid. Very nice for the money and back when I didn't have a sub they were the bass kings.

It was indeed me. A bargain for you indeed but then better you to have use of them for £60 than me leave them boxed and unused after my MA upgrade.
Still hoping you'll return the favour and sell your Sony 930 CD one day (at an equally bargain price :smashin: )

just has to be the pair of Celestion Ditton 15s that I bought for £109.50 in 1976 and are only now, having upgraded everything upstream, being considered for replacement. I know £110 was a lot of dosh in 1976, and it did represent half the budget (the other half spent on Pioneer PL12D turntable and Pioneer SX 450 Receiver) but when you consider that I've had 27 years happy listening, that's (quick sum) about £4 per annum. Now that's a bargain - both in terms of listening pleasure and financially! And no need to go near e-pay.

I do hope you used them for a while and didn't just have a quick profit-take. That would be a shame. So do excuse me if I've misunderstood.

A pair of Celestion Ditton 66 Studio Monitors for £50 off a mates brother, in about 1996. Still in service and no plans to replace.
These are mid 70's and I believe cost a pretty penny (or two) back then.

Interesting. And you're right, I couldn't afford the 66s - even with first pay cheques.

thanks for response on that. I confess that I've acquired two Meridian combos (200/203 & 602/606) that have a probable resale price higher than I paid. Unless I get offers they are destined as trade in for new speakers though. Haven't tried ebay as seller though I have (unsuccessfully) bid - all but one of the items I wanted went for too much - the one that got away was a sudden death and I lost by a whisper.

btw, does your signature still reflect what you have?
