    Hi,

I bought a Toshiba 42PW23P rp tv last christmas as a present
which was fantastic until a month ago when after about 10-15 min
there is a black hazy horzontal line straight through the middle of the
tv set which stays until it is switched off.

I bought the set from Comet and bought a 5 yr extended warranty
with it but I was quite dissapointed with this fault in only 4 months!!
I called Toshiba who said it wasnt a "known fault" and they said to get
comet to look at it...I did and their engineer said its probably the "frame Chip"?? anyway a week later- today he came back and fitted it but
4 hours afterwards the black line is back on the screen!!!

My question is should I persist with Comet constantly coming out to
repair a 5 month old TV? or should I go back to the store and demand
a new one since I forked out the best part of £1k.?

Please can you tell me what I should do? :lease:

    Thanks

    Sam

well, you should at least get them out again. i don't think you'll have much luck with a refund/replacement untill they have been out few times and still can't fix it.

I'm afraid you can place no credence whatsoever on Tosh admitting anything. I suspect that if you called them to advise that, when you pressed the teletext button the picture disappeared to be replaced by text, they would swear blind that they'd never heard of that before & no-one else has ever experienced these symptoms! For further evidence just search the forum for Toshiba.

As previously advised, check with your local trading standards as to exactly what your rights are & then politely, quietely but VERY firmly state these to the supplier in writing together with your preferred solution. Obstructive store managers can often have a complete change of heart if the Small Claims Court is mentioned in response to the industry standard "there's nothing we can do".

Good luck, don't take no for an answer & definately don't let the B*st*rds grind you down!

    Thankyou for your replies.

Comet are sending out an engineer this saturday
but it seemed he didnt really know anything regarding
rp Tv's!! an he said he worked for Tempo before.

The lady on the phone said that if they cant fix it they'll
replace it, my question is do you think I got a duffer the
first time and should take a new one of the same model
42pw23p or should I pay the difference and go for the
42wh36? is it better ? will it last longer ? ive heard that
the 50hz can be better than 100hz when viewing sports?

    Any help much appreciated

weyland I didnt know it was discontinued I went to Comet yesterday and saw the W36 and my model still on display?

The comet engineer came yesterday, a different guy who proceeded to get out his soldering iron and soldered into the massive pcb!!!! It still didnt stop the black line and then he said we should replace the frame chip again...the same chip the other engineer changed 3 days earlier...

He says the last engineer could have replaced the original frame chip with a faulty one!!! Isnt this getting silly??

well if they still have wh36's in stock and they do offer a replacement, then i'd take the wh36 as tosh won't be making any more. oh, and make sure you keep a record of repairs and what the engineers say so you have more ammo if comet get shirty.
