    Hello,

I've attached a very vague, not to scale, image of my new living room. The blank space where the wall finishes between the two sofas is an archway into another room much the same size (empty at the moment!).

Anyway, I wondered if anyone could advise on where best to sit the speakers for this sort of set up, the TV, amp etc will be between the two windows in the corner, the main use sofa is highlighted.

Oh yes, it's a 5.1 (centre, and four others) system only.

Main question is where do I put the rears? I want to get the gable down now, before we get the skirting etc. fitted next week!

    Thanks for any help!

I'd suggest probably the right rear at the right-hand end of the main sofa,
and the left rear around the middle of the other sofa, with the speakers angled in so they are firing straight at each other ?

depends a lot on what speakers you have for the rears really...

The speakers are a bit big to go half way behind, even the rears!

I wasn't sure really if maybe the only choice would be centre, front right and front left in the "obvious" places around the box. The the rears at opposing ends (farthest from one another) of each sofa, or if the left rear should be next to the arch, to thr right of sofa 2 (but that would be at the expense of those who sit there I guess?!).

    Thanks agian!

    :D

I would put the TV in a wall or under a window...

More confort, better decoration, better sound and easier placement too...

It's tricky as it's a very old cottage, there's not much room above or below the windows, so you cant fit a seat in those places, let alone a TV set.

I'm going to put the speakers on the floor to start with, see how things go as we settle in, and do something more permenant once I'm more familiar with the place.

    :)
