    Greetings,

I am currently using a 500gb usb hard disk with my ps3. I works fine and I have loads of photos, videos and albums all within their correct folders (music, video etc)

My problem is that I now have so much its taking forever to scroll down lists to get towhat I want.

    I therefore decided to organise everything in sub-folder (eg. \music\artist name\album name\tracks)

Unfortunately when I do this the ps3 only seems to look at the first folder and then tells me its empty. This is bloody annoying!

Is there anything else I should have done or can the PS3 simply not handle multiple folders? :lease:

    Cheers

    Simon

I think this should work ok. When you select the main folder use triangle instead of x and i think it will then display the content of the sub folders.
I'm pretty sure that is how it works with usb keys etc so i think it will also work with the HD.

I would like the same sorting options the PS3 gives you for the internal HD also for an external drive.

Its a Western digital 'mybook'. It needs its own power supply but comes in fat32. Just add usual 3 ps3 folder (music, video, pictures) and you're away!

Cheers for the fast response guys. Will give it a try when I get home!

O.K I've just tried the triangle but that only gives me the option to copy, delete or see folder info.

Any other ideas or am I just going to have to put up with really long lists?

Just for reference the folders have to be named MUSIC VIDEO PICTURE (no s) and they have to be capitals not lower cased

The last time I had my External HD connected to my PS3 what your asking couldn't be done.
Which made me wish I'd spent my money on a bigger Internal HD drive instead. :(

My solution was to connect the external HD drive to a PC which I had running 24/7 anyway and stream the content to the PS3, which then does keep the folder structure and show the contents of all folders.

The other bonus for me was the PC I have running 24/7 is running Linux so I could format the drive to Ext2 which doesn't have the 4GB file restriction so I can stream all my HD Videos from it too :)

As an aside: the Bluetooth Sony DVD (etc) r/c, available for about £17 for the PS3, makes life a lot easier when trying to access multi-media content.
