Velodynes new baby VX-10
Hmm, just doesn't quite "do it" for me.
But then I don't suppose it's aimed at the sort of people who buy CHT-15's
It's aimed at folks on a budget who are looking for compact subs such as the Rel Quake and MJ 50. It outperforms these by a fair margin and looks absolutely fantastic in the flesh.
It will not outperform its bigger cousin the CHT-10 just as the CHT-10 won't outperform the CHT-15.
Why has it got half a Volkswagen badge on the front.
I'm sure it will look better in the flesh, however when I saw the pic, the first thing I thought of was the VW badge and the Beastie Boys led craze of wearing them as medallions in the mid 80's.
But then as I said, I'm not really the sort of customer they are targetting, and I could never be accused of having particularly good taste
Just how compact is it? Do you have any dimensions?
The Silver one is growing on me! Although aesthetics come second place to sound quality.
Measurements are approx 15" High by 12" wide.
It's a strange world this.
It seems the American dealers are going bonkers because they love the retro looks of the European version and the fact that ours comes in Cherry and Silver. Theres is a black box.
Maybe Velo should sell all three throughout the world???
Personally, I love the way this thing looks (and sounds).
It's a shame my picture taking skills are so crappy as this should really be seen (and heard) to be appreciated.
I cannot defend (word chosen with care) a mega-sub. due to room size, WAF and partition wall to neighbours. However, I don't yet have a sub. and that is delaying my completion of my Gallo ball set.
So, I'm pleased this one has turned up with the prospect of the Uncle seal of approval. [Will avoid acronym on this ocassion.] Are you adding this to your offerings Eric, and how does it sound with your Denon 3802 and Gallo balls?
... silver might go nicely with the Tosh telly, once I tidy away the black boxes.
Must admit - it's starting to grow on me
The looks are growing on me...have a preference for the silver finish...wonder what the other half will think?
Couple of questions for Eric....
Are there any specs available for the new velo sub?
How would this compare to the Gallo Sub?
Is the silver surround an integral part of the design or can it be removed without a loss of performance? The cherry box would look better without that huge "V" IMO.
Silver sub looks great as it is!
how much and where from just got approval and it may be the sub for my near to be set up
how will it compare to the paradigm ps1000 if its in the same price range silver one
It's not half a Volkswagen badge, it's a half a Dodge Viper badge.
Thanks for the positive remarks guys.
If you saw these babys in the flesh you would be shocked at how great they looked.
If any of you guys are at Bristol next weekend go along to room 411 where the VX-10 can be seen and heard.
If Velo allow me to sell this for £199 (and I don't yet know if it's possible to achieve this figure), this will be Velodynes most ground breaking product from a bang for buck perspective EVER.
I can confidently tell you that nothing can touch it at £249. At £199, forget it!!!
I'm waiting on the final specs.
The Gallo sub outperforms the VX-10 as it should for twice the price.
I think the Silver V is Integral but I'll check.
No baby no...
Sorry Eric, doesn't float my boat. Bet the sonics are great but I wouldn't give that house-room.
Better keep saving for that CHT-15....
Thanks Eric ....look forward to seeing the spec....plus hearing it perform this weekend at the show...
so as it stands subwoofer pecking order is (price per performance) ?
Velodyne VX10 £249
Velodyne CHT10 £375 (Silver option)
Gallo MPS 150 £450
I've gotta say I'd rather have this sitting in my living room than the usual black box type sub. And with any luck my missus will agree with me... please god, please!
When are you expecting to hear whether or not you can do it for £199?
If Michael Jackson owned this baby as well, would he put a veil over it? (Rather that than hang it out the window.)
But I digress ....
Eric, how do you rate it with music as well as HC? Have you tried it with the Gallo Nucleus balls?
Having 'googled' to track down some US sites, I am definitely interested.
Deckard, sorry mate. I can see this is going to be a love it or hate it kinda design. Visually anyway.
I have tried the VX-10 with the new Anthony Gallo A'Diva's.
Very nice indeed. I'll have a go with the NM's tomorrow.
We should know in the next few days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I love the looks also.
Come over to Bristol and see/hear for yourself. I'm sure you'll be impressed.
All the best
Would an upgrade from my existing Paradigm PDR10 be a worthwhile one? Or would I have to spend more one one of its bigger brothers (money is tight, new baby girl born last week! )
My other speakers are:
B&W 602 S3 Fronts
B&W LCR60 Centre
B&W 600 Rears
Fed from a Denon 3802
Thanks in anticipation
If that was a new born baby, I'd slap it's mother...truly hideous
I guess that puts me in the 'hate it' camp
Thanks Colin. I think it looks superb. In fact, I no longer have my cherry demo unit as one of my customers grabbed it yesterday
It really does look great in the flesh and is most definately an improvement on your PDR10.
The CHT-10 would of course be a further improvement but hey, you've gotta draw the line somewhere.
All the best
Is the grille removable? I reckon it would look quite good without it, that V makes it look like the front of a Vauxhall!
Until my shipments come in. I'm holding on to the silver one for dear life
Silver would certainly be my choice of the two available colours. A couple of my spanish mates have had a look at the pics and think it looks pretty smart as well.
