    I have the titanium-coloured version HTR-5540RDS.

I'm very happy with it, but don't listen to me as it's my first receiver and I'm not able to compare it to anything.

Had good reviews in the magazines though :)

I'm hopefully picking up the titanium version also tonight - so once I've played with it I can let you know what I think. The demo I had was good. I want it for DPL2 and 6.1 matrix. As I don't have room for the extra speaker at the back this machine will simulate one for me. All will be revealed shortly!

    Cheers

I have the 530, which sounds the same exactly but has some more connectors on the rear panel, and a better remote. I have been told that the 430 is the best at that price. I am really satisfied with my system, but as squirrel said, it is my first one... Nevertheless, much better (through the same speakers) in stereo than my sony str-de 135 stereo amp, I wrote about the impressions somewhere here, you may do a search. And of course, another world with respect to the compact pioneer hifi I had when young.
I would say go for it.

Did a quick set-up and test last night. It is fine! The virtual rear centre speaker actually works on DD-EX / DTS-ES soundtracks!

So far so good with it. I'll mainly use it for movies.

If you use it mainy for movies, you made the best choice as far as I have been told. I posted some valuations (based in other people expert-opinions, I didn't test so many receivers, at least not properly...) about it in other threads, make a little search... By the way, I also explained the point of the light indicators for input channels somewhere before, Squirrel God, this shows the lazy we all are when it comes to search...
Congratulations, at last, for your new receiver.

I'd ask sounddog... I read some of her comments about speakers, at least it seems she knows what she writes about, and some people here is really grateful for her advices.
But it is a very small budget, I think... I spent 370 pounds in my speakers... Anyway, I am not yet "enlighted" in that area...
    Good luck!

Well, I've just through every single post you've ever made and I can't find anything :( I think we've sorted it out now (Dolby are nuts with their numbering system and Yamaha - and others - make it even worse by using different indicator lights to those used by Dolby), but if you could direct me to your past post, I'd be interested - in case it throws any further light on the matter. Probably best if you do this on the other thread to keep all related posts in the same place ;) Cheers :)
