Yamaha TSR 7850 Dolby ATMOS setup

Wh
I hope I answer your question ... The audio and video only goes through the HDMI. I do not use the "Audio Only" connections. As I mentioned, I have the 3 sources connected to the inputs of the Yamaha, then the single output from the Yamaha goes to the TV input. I do not have a PS, so I cannot comment on how good it is as a source. I know my problem was the source even though the video was outstanding. I even upgraded my Blu-ray to 4K because of it's better audio capability.
When you told me about source I tried my ps5 but unfortunately not supported dolby atmos, that's why I can't check. I'm not using any separate audio source. I connected directly avr to TV via arc hdmi 2.1, but when I open Netflix normally must be come on avr screen dolby atmos but my situation only dolby surround is seeming on avr screen. I hope someone can answer my problem. Thank you for helping.

Blu ray and 4K both carry the same quality of audio. No difference at all.
Yes I see that but still not get it point. Where I made an mistake? Everything I checked from yamaha website everything is looking fine but still no have dolby atmos on screen.

Pragmatically speaking, there are not that many Blu-ray discs that have Atmos. Conversely, there are not that many Blu-ray players that can decode Atmos metadata. I just tried to play a new Blu-ray I have (The Last Jedi) that also came with the 4k disc, and it played DTS HD while the 4k disc, of course, played Atmos (Dolby Vision). I gave away my Blu-ray player which leaves me with no idea what audio would have played.

Barbar88, you are going through exactly what I was - namely, Netflix is supposed to have Atmos, yet I was not decoding it after 2 weeks of configuring and reconfiguring AVR, TV, etc.. After I tried everything I could think of, I went out and got another well known source (Roku Ultra or Apple 4k+), and then I was successful! Is it possible for you to borrow a 4k disc and player to test your system? If you have gone through the set up and are sure the selections are correct, I would suspect the source.

Yes probably you are right but unfortunately no have around me someone have roku or apple 4k but I'll research maybe I can find on AliExpress or ebay. Thank you for helping.

I commiserate with you ... I was so frustrated! Then after I got the Roku, it was so good, even though I think discs won't be around that much longer, I went ahead and bought a 4k Ultra player, and that is even better! What is funny ... I had my grand-daughters over and we were watching 4k Jurassic Park, and they were screaming and ducking their heads HAHA I can't promise that every movie will be that dramatic, but movies like James Bond, Star Wars, even some shows on Netflix etc. are worth the trouble ...

I'm glad to hear you spend time with your grand daughters. I hope I can fix my problem with roku or apple 4k. But I try to find and test it before buy. Thanks for your time. You gave me an idea.

Hello everyone, I have similar problem as well that why I don't wanna open another topic. I have avr Yamaha tsr-7850, klipsch reference theater pack 5.1 and r-41m and whatever I tried I can't get dolby atmos. (I used Netflix for content). My TV Sony x85j and support dolby atmos and vision. Could you please help me to fix this situation. Thank you.

Simple answer is that you've onlhy a 5.! speaker setup.

You'd need at leat a 7 channel setip with either an additional pair of back surrounds or 2 presence speakers to be able to poortray Atmos soundtracks via your AV receiver.

The only other option would be to engage Dolby Height Vitualization, but this is only an option onboard Yamaha's most recent models. This would create virtual representations of the speakers absent from your setup that are required to portray Atmos.

Also note that you cannot get Atmos via the PS5. It doesn't support it.

If accessing it via streaming service apps hosted on a TV then you'd have to use ARC to convey it from that TV to the AV receiver. The TV's digital audio output should be set to an option that equates to BITSTREAM. THis will be options such as AUTO or PASS THROUGH if not listed as BITSTREAM.

It should also be noted that not all TV and or TV manufacturers include apps that will actually result in Atmos being available or output. This is even if that streaming service includes content inclusive of Atmos.

All in all, you need to add 2 presence speakers to you setup if wanting to access Atmos.

Thanks for answering but I have 7.1 system. I have klipsch reference theater pack 5.1 and r-41m x2 totally is 7 channel and 1 sub. My TV Sony x85j and I have 2.1hdmi cable. I tried many things but nothing change. Could you please tell me what should I try more.

So what format is indicated by the AV receiver as being what it is receiving when attempting to get Atmos from the TV. Does the AV receiver indicate it is getting Dolby Digital PLus (DD+)?

I'd also suggest that you set the AV receiver to the STRAIGHT mode to eliminate addutional processing as being a reason for not getting Atmos.

It's looking only dolby surround. Also I can change 7channel as well but dolby atmos never see.

Dolby Surround is an upmixing mode and not a format. THe AV receiver should be indicating what format it is applying that Dolby Surround Upmixing processing to on the display?

Press the INFO button on the remote to alter what is being shown on the display. You need to have it set to the AUDIO DECODER option

Yes and did you try pressing the INFO button to change what information is being shown as I suggested?

I need to know what format the TV is outputting to the AV receiver, not the upmixing mode being applied by the AVR.

While the display is set to the AUDIO DECODER mode, it will alternate between showing the actual audio format it is receiving and the upmixing mode it is applying to it if any. You are just posting images of the upmixiung mode information and not divulging what the display shows when it alternates to indicate the audio format.

I need to know what the audio format is.

I don't know how to check about that, I just change to channel from audio input. I open dd+ from TV. Even I open dosent change anything. Now I'm not closed to TV if you tell me how to check, I can take ss and send to you.

I don't know to check neither avr. Could you please tell me how can i check, I'll send ss to topic.

On the remote, there's a button labelled INFO. Pressing this cycles through the AV receiver 2 display options. Ensure the display is set to the AUDIO DECODER option.

THis will show the upmixing mode (in this case Dsur (Dolby Surround Upmixing)), but will alternate to also indicate what actual incoming format that processing is being applied to.

This will be either DD or DD+ preceeded by the Dolby double D logo or PCM if receiving audio from your TV. I need to know which?

Anyway, just press the STRAIGHT button and engage the STRAIGHT mode. THis will then result in not having Dolby Surround upmixing engaged and you'd just see the format shown on the display.

I took a lot ss to send here, if you need anything else let me know please. You said remote must be have info but i cant see thats why i send both (tv and avr) remote photo here. Also when i make STRAIGHT nothing see on avr screen view, also i took ss for that too. Could you check please for me what im doing wrong about Dolby Atmos point. Thank you.

Hello everyone I explain to my situation anybody can help to fix it. If need more info I can send more photos. Thanks.

If able to get Atmos via other sources then I'd suggest that it isn't an issue with the AV receiver or with the manner in which you've configured ot.

Dolby Surround upmixing would ordinarilly be negated by the presence of Atmos metadata if such metadata is detected by the AV receiver so I can only conclude that the TV itself is either not accessing Atmos via the streaming service you are using or that it is not conveying it to the AV receiver via ARC?

I cannot be more precise as to what is actually being output by the TV to the AV receiver because you failed to relate this information when I asked for it, but if you are getting DD+ from the AV receiver then the audio doesn't actually include Atmos metadata so the TV cannot stream it to the AV receiver packaged with the DD+ element of the audio package.

I'd suspect that your TV is at fault as opposed to it being an issue with the AV receiver.

I don't have any streaming device except TV or play station 5 but ps5 its not supported by dolby atmos. So I can't test it. I connected arc cable (hdmi 2.1 ps5 cable support 8k 60hz) directly avr to TV. Not only dolby atmos also I can't see any dd or dd+ on my avr screen as well. I sent all photos about my setup. Did you see any mistake about connection? Cause only option I left buy new device any dolby atmos supporting and test like this. When I bought this TV Sony x85j I saw it can support dolby atmos and dolby vision, that why I bought it but unfortunately I have learnt actually can't support. Thank you so much for all your helping. I'm appreciate that.
