I currently own a Yamaha DSP-AV1 Amplifiier. Rest of system comprises Sony DVD, Sky+, Sony Freeview, into Philips 37" Plasma. B&W (5.1) speaker system and REL subwoofer. Have owned Yamaha amp for about 3 years, maybe slightly more. Happy with sound in 5.1 set-up. No room for extra speakers, so extended surround not really a consideration. I appreciate that technology has moved on, and have read some good reviews of the Denon AVR-3500. Features which I particularly like include component video upconvertion and switching, and ProLogicII. Also the Denonlink facility for when I eventually upgrade the DVD player. My main question is what improvement can I expect in terms of sound quality in 5.1 mode for DVD movies. Will it outperform the Yamaha? I know some of this is subjective, and of course I will arrange a demo before buying. However, would welcome any feedback as I never really trust what I am told by salespeople, even with high end hifi and home cinema retailers. Thanks.
