Thanks Steve. How does SRT-1000 5.1 compare with the surround-sound generated by other Yamaha Sound Projectors utilising many more speakers, i.e. why so few transducers this time and is the SRT-1000 the real deal?

I'm sure this is well built, but oh the agony of the metal grill. Yuck, yuck and yuck.

Had a look at one today and very impressed with it. Would be even better if I won it. Fingers crossed

This doesn't decode DTS HD or Dolby TrueHD so what happens if you watch a Blu-ray? You only get 2 channel sound?

      Questions
      ------------/

Do the beams still work if there is a window with wooden blinds hanging from it?

Can my sofa sit against the back (opposite to the sound add) wall?

I have a hollowed out chimney breast where my TV now resides, is it ok for soundbase to sit there too? The sides of the unit would have wall either side, but the front would be edged out about 2 or 3 inches.

Lastly, Yamaha have just released the SRT-1500 which looks more or less the same as the SRT-1000 but with a HDMI port and Multicast. Plus it is a couple of hundred quid more expensive than the 1000.

      Hi,
Can someone help me decide? I have bought a Samsung JS8500 55inch curved tv. I'm looking to buy SRT 1000 sound base but not sure whether my tv will sit securely on it. Is my TV too big? The centre curved pedestal stand is approx 83cm. Any help would be appreciated.

I also thought that there was an issue in that it doesn't process DD+, so no surround from any Freeview box connected to it if 5.1 is in play for a programme's audio stream. Is that correct? The specs. don't mention it, so if it's missing it's pretty shortsighted and of little interest to me if I need to replace my existing kit at some point.

The TV stand is slightly too wide. I have a UE55JS9000, I put the sound base on a shelf below my TV on my TV base unit. Apologies for somewhat dark photo. Phone camera.

I agreed with your "yuck" comment until owning one, and sat a small distance away, I thankfully can't see the metal grill. Also, when watching the Samsung UE55JS9000T above, I never need to actually look at my sound base whilst engrossed in a good movie or TV show.
