    tombarr,

    I found this http://www.yamaha.co.jp/news/2003/03022801.html

so it seems that they are coming out with new amplifiers and I would think that the receivers are to be followed. And they are also sold as gold!!! lucky buyers in Japan.

Unfortunately I don't understand Japanese, although it is my favourite country.

(AV) Hi-Fi getting like personal computers? as in anything you buy is obsolete as soon as you've bought it?!!!

With Stereo hi-fi we were fairly safe - my 10 year old kit still sounds excellent and won't be beaten without spending much more than I spent on the first place. But with AV, everything seems to get replaced within 6 months of release!

I have just bought a Yamaha RXV630 couldn't wait until the new 640 to arrive in April. I got it to replace my Rotel RSP980 processor, I'm running the 630 as a pre-amp feeding a Rotel RB 985 Amp. It sounds pretty good to my ears I don't know why the press say that the 630 is a little too smooth. I first tried a Maranz 5300 although I liked the sound, the gain on the volume pot was set too low and on some DVD's I couldn't get barely enough volume. In the future I might get a NAD C160 Pre-Amp and add that just for Stereo but at present I'm pretty happy with the quality of the sound.
