Yamaha RX-V685 - Unknown Error - Bricked?

Hello, I'm quite desperate for help. I have a Yamaha RX-V685 which has performed flawlessly for a couple of years. Recently it started dropping off the network randomly (so streaming sources and MusicCast would stop).
I've tried factory resetting it (no improvement) and then tried forcing a firmware update over USB, which usually would get stuff on 'Verifying' (for over 12+ hours) but it's gone on to update twice now - but errors out during S6 Writing then goes to 'Unknown Error'.

Now whenever I turn it on, it gets into a loop of 'Update failed' - wanting me to re-update or power off to cancel (but that doesn't do anything and it's still stuck in the loop).

I'm not sure what's going on at all - almost seems like there's a power / connectivity issue internally causing it to fail and error out - or some EEPROM has been damaged causing instability. I've downloaded the service manual but there's nothing of use for this issue.

Any ideas or pointers?

First try thisL

1. Unplug the power cable from wall mains supplt.
2. Insert the USB thumb drive which has the most recent firmware revision stored pn it, into the USB port located on the front panel.
3. Press and hold the INFO key and keep it pressed while you plug the AC power cable back into the wall outlet again.
“ USB UPDATE ” shpuld appear on the front display. Release the INFO key after it does.
4. The update should now start automatically.
5. When “ UPDATE SUCCESS ” appears on the display, firmware update is completed.
Power off the receiver and remove the USB thumb drive.

You should now be able to power it back up and the firmware version should be the one you've just installed.

If repeatedly getting error messages if and when attempoting to use the intent formare update process then you may have issues with your home network or internet access?

If still unable to get the AV receiver to respond then I can only suggest you contact Yamaha. They';; more than likely want you to take the receiver to an authorised service centre to have them deal with the issue.

So sorry for my English, i am a french man
I am looking for the old versions of my RX-V685 because i have a big issue with v1.96. I am still waiting from Yamaha support that i had sent an email. I was looked for a long day on the web, but i did not find v1.80 or v1.92 or 1.72.
There is just the last version 1.96. I would like that i someone tell me where i can download an older version in order to solve my issue.

I repeatedly did this - with no luck.. So it sat in a box for a month or so. On the off-chance I tried again yesterday and it worked finally! Though now I'm left with my original issue which is that it seems to keep forgetting its settings / network connectivity every few minutes / seconds...
