Yamaha RX V683 PC input 50Hz video brighter than 60Hz

I have recently noticed that my PC input was noticeably dimmer than others, eg my Apple TV. I've not noticed such discrepancy with my previous amps and thought the newer Apple box just somehow had a inherently brighter signal.

After paying more attention to the projector signal switching labels, I noticed that one difference between the various inputs was that the PC was outputting a 60hz signal, which seemed to be the default. I tried switching to 50hz and suddenly, the picture had much more brightness and contrast, now more consistent with the Apple TV.

Is this expected behaviour? It seems unusual to me. Also, is there any disadvantage to leaving the PC output at 50Hz?
