Yamaha RX V671 question

Standard Member
I'm close to buying the yamaha RX V671 receiver
to connect to my sony blu ray play but I have one
question before I do.

As this blu ray player has only one hdmi output I'll
be using one hdmi cable from the blu ray player to
the yamaha receiver then another hdmi cable from
the receiver back to the tv to enable me to get Dolby
true HD sound and DTS master audio.

As the sound/picture goes through the amp back to the
tv does this mean I'll always need the receiver turned on
when I watch a dvd or blu?

For example I often watch Friends on dvd (and other dvds
from boxsets) and don't want to always have the receiver
turned on.

If anyone can clarify with this I'd really appreciate it.

Nearly every AV Receiver has HDMI passthrough these days inc. Yamaha. Simply select the BDP input prior to putting it in standby and it will pass audio and video to the TV.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just use the AV receiver though. TV speakers are pretty rubbish these days!

Dave is correct, however with the RX V671 you can actualy change HDMI inputs whilst the Amp. is in standby :)

Thanks for your replies. They've both been very
useful. I'll probably put down a depost on this
amp now very soon.
