    Hello :hiya: ,

I currently have an RX-V440 and while I'm pleased with its performance, I'd like to have a receiver with preouts so I can stop having to swap speaker cables between my AV setup and my stereo system.

I'm using a JVC 28-inch flat-screen standard television and a Harmon Kardon DVD30 into a 6.1 speaker configuration with no immediate aspirations to get any fancier.

Looking at the descriptions of the RX-V657 and RX-V757 (the DSP-AX757SE is not available in Europe), I'm finding it difficult to determine significant differences between the two to justify the additional expense for the 757.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

    Cheers, Dex

To be honest, there's not much difference barring one less channel in the 757 (i.e. 7.1 versus 6.1). If you'll be using it for 5.1 and you don't want to bi-amp your front speakers, then the 657 or even 557 will do just fine.

The 757 has (compared the 657):
    - 5W extra power per channel
    - Phono inputs
    - Learning remote with backlit display
    - Aluminium volume dial

    Thanks guys!

So looking at these differences individually:

    - 5W extra power per channel (Not terribly significant in the grand scheme of things, especially since I will be utilising my monoblock power amps for the fronts.)

    - Phono inputs (Meaning a phono stage? I've got one of those already in my stereo set-up.)

    - Learning remote with backlit display (I've got one of those NAD universal learning remotes w/backlit display)

    - Aluminium volume dial (I'll probably never touch it anyway since I always use my remote)

So unless there's anything else we're missing, it looks like the RX-V657 is the one for me!

    Best, Dex

Technically the UK 757 has better power supply and capacitors, than the 657.

Also, the 657 does zone 2 output properly, the 657 has a audio output for zone 2, where the 757 has the tuner input. Also the 657 has zone 2 assignable pressence channels, and theres a 12v trigger for powering zone 2 components which the 757 doesn't have (which is a pity as this could also be used for switching on power amps in future).

In some ways it looks like the 657 is the better model, but the features lost on the AX757 have gone into better internal components... In theory.

In practise you may not be able to hear such audio benefits anyway....

Again confusion runs rife between the European and UK models! The European RX-V757 handles zone 2/presence speakers in the same way as the RX-V657!

Just placed an order for the 657 from Technik direkt in Germany. 349 Euro (+22 Euro shipping) seems like a pretty good deal! :smashin:

Thanks for everyone's help; I'll report back when it arrives.

    Cheers, Dex

Just bought some B&W M-1's and I'm looking for a reasonably priced amp and I came across the 657 whilst checking out the 757. I would like some feedback on the 657. Any cash saved will go toward my BK sub
