Why am I struggling to get this receiver.
I phoned around only to be met with,

    They've stopped making them,

None are coming out of the factory,

A new one is coming out soon,

You don't want that, you want.......

Is it because these outlets just don't have them at the prices they advertise.

Where do people get this receiver from and at what price?

    Cheers,
    Chipper

640 is due next month. Yamaha don't have 630's to supply so you will have to get lucky with a retailer who still has them to sell. I picked up the non RDS version from Richer website for a great price. A day later they said you could only get them instore! I am sure the 640 will be the price that the 630 was when it came out. Good luck hunting one down.

That explains it then, I'll see what the 640 is like.
    Cheers.

From what I heard today the 640 will not be available that soon (early May seems likely according to 7oaks). Expect the box shifters to start selling it at £370 - £400

Is their any news out on this amp?
I wonder what it will be like, probably just a few visual tweaks on the case, maybe a few underneath.

    Thanks for that link.
It looks like a few changes under the hood.
    6 X 125W is up a fair bit on the 630's 5 X 80W.

I'll definately hold out for this.

According to the pdf's for both the 630 and 640, minimum RMS is up from 75W to 85W. Both had maximum RMS of 125 per channel. Other than that there seems very little difference. I was going to wait for it but knew i'd pay large premium over the current prices for the 630.

I wanted DPL II so that rules out the 620.
I'm going to wait for the 640, I know I'll pay a fair bit more than the current 630 but the cheapest I can find a 630 for is nearly £400 at the mo.

I bought my 630 at Richer Sounds/Milton Keynes for £249 a couple of weeks ago and its wonderful, especially at that price!

They still had one left and Leicester store was due to get some in a few days later - its a matter of getting store numbers from the website, calling the branch near you to see if they have any left in stock - well worth a bit of travel IMHO :)

Best of luck with your shopping-

    OB
