Recently had a demo of the RX-V3000 and was very impressed!

Switching between the 3000 and the Denon 3801, the Yammy seemed to have heaps more bass (using Roy Orbison Black & White Night DVD). Yamaha also appear to have addressed the "brightness" of the 3000 - it was a lot more musical than some of their previous efforts. In fact, the sound quality between the two was a lot closer than I thought possible.

I didn't get a chance to check out the 3000 in ES or EX mode (the store had not hooked up the extra speakers) so cannot comment in that regard.

The surprising thing is, that in Australia, the 3000 is only about $450 oz more than the 3801.

That's because the AVR-3801 is overpriced in Australia.
It should sell for around AUD2500 or less only.
