I'm trying to decide whether to go for a RX-A1050 or save the money and go with RX-A850. I don't really need the extra 10 watts and I'm not sure i would hear the difference in the DACs, but will i in a few years time be hitting my head against the wall for not having all hdcp 2.2 hdmi inputs?

Will the non hdcp 2.2 inputs (input 4-8) possibly be useless in the future when "all gadgets" turn 4k?

I do have a 4k tv, but 4k isn't that important to me (yet). I just want my future receiver to be as futureproof as possible.

Any 850/1050 owners care to share their thoughts?

For future proof you will need the RX-A860 unless there is a A850 update for DTS:X . For best sound use pre-out into separate stereo amp. As for the 1050 it all depends on the sensitivity of your speakers.
