Anyone had or got one of these DVD players? If so is it any good do you know, any thoughts on it??

Looking at hooking it up via componant via the RxV357 Receiver to my 42PD5200, or would I be better of going for one of the HDMI DVD players, i.e. Denon 1920, Sammy 950 etc

    Any help appreciated.

    James :)

    Yes I have one.
It's a nice DVD player, Sound is good, picture as well. It plays DivX as well. DivX is only interesting for people who download movies from the Internet. Not all DivX coded movies play 100% smooth, some have a strange jerky effect.
It had good reviews on Dutch and German websites.
It does not remember where the movie was when you turn it of and on again later. Many other brand models remember the time and continue where one stopped, some of even more than one disk.
The Yamaha will turn itself of after a while when not in use to save energy. Nice feature!? I don't think so. See previous remark. Could not find a setting to change this....

Although it's not feature loaded like many competitors, and has a little quirky ways of handling. In the end the money for this one did not go into bells and whistles most people don't use anyway, but it went into creating a design that does well what it should do and that is play movies.

For the S557 it's easy as opening the tray, type 9,9,9 on the remote then 0 for multiregion.

Do you know if this is also true for DVD-S657?

Another thing, at least S657 does remember the position of the movie when you stop it. Please, be sure you press the stop button once. If you press it twice in that disc or in any other disc, the position is forgotten. S657 remembers the position of 10 discs.

You call the resume feature pressing the play button when LOAD appears on the display.

    Regards,

    open tray press 9999
en then press the 0. The Yamaha S557 is regionfree. So one 9 more then mentioned before.

Why not try and see if this hack also works for the S657....
