I'd like to know which is better : the Denon AVR-3803 or the Yamaha DSP-AZ2. I apologise if this has been asked before. I need to make a purchasing decision. My speakers of choice are Paradigm Monitor 7's for the fronts, mini Monitor or Monitor 3's for the rears.

Better in terms of features, sound processing, value for money. More importantly, does the Yammy sound better than the Denon?
The DSP-AZ2 upconverts from composite video to S-Video, but the Denon can upconvert from composite and S-Video to Component. Is this important?

That is an question only you can answer. :)

Depends. Do you need it, i.e. do you have equipment with component connections (projector for example)?
If not it's probably not important.

I suggest you borrow both units from a dealer and compare them in your house with your speakers. Try them out for a weekend and then decide. Especially the sound issue is very "personal". ;)

Don't tell me you want to buy online for a discount so have no intention of actually listening to them before you buy, otherwise why are you asking the question?

I do plan on listening to both. I just wanted to hear from others that have auditioned both products, and get their opinions and what I should look out for. And I won't be buying either of these online.

i have a 3803 sounds fantastic with movies and music
    any bad points.. looks dated!!
had a quick demo of the yammy
soundwise as good as the denon in movies if not in music
    and one point about prices
    Local dealer price(global)
    The denon £900
    Online price £680
asked AFTER the demo can he match,,no chance
    so he had a chance

but did you say 'if you can't do it for 680 I'll get it elsewhere' or 'i can get it for 680 online, wha'ts your best price'??

_OF COURSE_ a shop offering knowledgable staff and demo facilities cannot match the prices of an internet based box shifter, but given a chance, they will probably try and get you a deal of sorts.

Yes gave them every chance , was willing to pay a little above
    internet price
But it was the dismissive attitude,They will be grey, not official etc
And i have spent ££££ with them
Global are known for not being cheap at the best of times
