Please can I have your opinions on whether this is a good idea. It will be driving a pair of Rogers LS4a front speakers and I'll be getting some new rear and centre speakers (possibly Spendor).

    Sound sources will be:
    Marantz CD50 CD player
    Toshiba SD220E DVD player
    Pro-ject Debut II turntable
    Sky box

Is the Yamaha a worthy successor for the B1? how would they compare? Will it give good results with some of the more 'antique' parts of the system - ie the speakers and the Marantz? Or would something else work better for the same sort of price as the Yamaha - if not, what sort of money do I need to spend?

    Thanks very much

    TC

The yamaha is never going to come close to your B1 amplifier. If you are looking for a Home Theatre receiver with any form of Hifi presentation to it then I would look straight at the Arcam AVR300. I am afraid they are £1300.00 but it will give a better HIFI presentation than the good old B1.

If budget is tight then look at keeping the B1 for the front two speakers and adding a processor to drive just the rears and centre speaker.
