The Yamaha amp will only display this if it is receiving a 96Khz/24bit digital signal, which can only come from a DVD (not a CD, where the sampling frequency/bitrate is 44.1Khz/16 bit). And not from any DVD disc or player either - Only some (usually specialist music) DVD discs are coded at 96khz, and only some DVD players (including Pioneer and some recent Sonys) will output a 96khz digital signal - most, including I believe Wharfedale, will downsample such a signal to 48Khz before sending it to the digital out sockets.

    HTH,

    Hi all,

I have my Wharfedale DVD player connected to my A5 with a coaxial digital cable.

When playing audio CDs through a digital cable (ie using the Yamaha's DAC), the Yamaha is meant to display 'PCM STEREO 96K'.

I have tried both audio output settings on the DVD player (Bitstream and PCM).Neither displays the above message.

    Anyone have any ideas ?
