Right I want to keep my Yamaha A2 but I also want the new toys like PL2 and upsampling and 7.1. What if I get a budget AV reciever and feed the A2 to drive my speakers plus a Pioneer A300 Amp I have to drive another 2 speakers.

Has anybody tried this? Would it work? Am I stupid?
Be honest I can take it :)

I went from a Yamaha A2 to a Denon 3802 earlier this year and was pleased with the results. DPL2 is probably the biggest single gain but I haven't had a chance to install the 2 extra speakers for 7.1 sound yet. As you want upsampling then you could look for a used 2803/3803 at £250-350 depends on your budget.

From memory I think you can only use the front three channel amps on the A2 so even though its amps are probably better than most of todays sub £1k receivers I'd sell it and out the money into a good single box solution. If you then want to add more power later keep an eye out for some used rotel power amps or similar.
