    Hi All,

What are my options of upgrading to DTS-ES and all the other new formats if I wish to keep my Yamaha A1?

Would it be cheaper/better to sell the A1 and go for a new amp?

    Cheers.

    Probably.

If you realy want to use the A1 somehow then prehaps get a cheap amp that does DTS-ES etc to use as a processor and use pre-outs to make use of the A1 as a power amp (for the main 5 channels)? Doesnt make sence to me tho.

A new amp might not be cheaper but perhaps better. Not much options with the A1 - have one myself but I keep it for a while, 5.1 is (still) good enough for me ...

Depends where you want to take this. If you're planning on spending a lot you could look towards getting a seperate hi-end pre-amp like a Tag and use the A1 as a power amp to start with then add dedicated hi-end power amps as you can afford them.

As Rob says if you're looking at under £1000 then a new integrated amp like the Pioneer 5i is about your only option but would be a pain in the arse to still use the A1 with so you might as well replace it.

I've considered the Pre-Amp route with a 2nd hand Tag AV32R to use with my A1 but it's looking too expensive with all the upgrades I'd want on the Tag.
