Yamaha DRX-730 DVD audio not downmixing

Novice Member
According to the manual -

The DRX-730 downmixes multi-channel sources, such as Dolby Digital and DTS, into a 2-channel stereo mix that you can enjoy through the speakers connected to the DRX-730.

This is simply not working. What I get is the front 2 channels from 5.1 and no dialog etc that would normally come through the center speaker.
I have tried about 10 different DVDs selecting DD 3/2.1 with the same result - no downmixing.
Does any one have a solution for this?

Simply select the 2ch stereo option from the discs own audio options. All DVD releases included a steo version of the soundtrack along with a 5.1 mix. Also note that you can cnfigure the player to only output 2 ch PCM and have it downmix the audio prior to output. No idea why the downmix option isn't working with your DRX730?

Dante - 2ch stereo works when it is available, but I have quite a few dvds where this is not an option. Output to 2 ch PCM appears to apply only when using digital output to another device.

Update - a factory reset did the trick.
