    I have 2 Yam units

    cdr-hd1300 and 1500model

any ideas as to why there is no on/off remote controlled button ?

    i find that a rubbish idea !

apart from that, the item is amazing - sound, features, best cd player ever..........oh and its a juke box too !!!

There is no direct access. Given however that the < arrow scrolls in from the top down, you can normally come in from the other side. Also if you still have the use of your legs, the jog dial on the unit can move 100 units in about two seconds so I'm not losing any sleep over it. This also applies to the power button.
As to the noise, my 1300 is extremely quiet and has never been a problem although I must admit I don't generally listen to music with my ear jammed against the unit.

Remember that the unit is not a ground up new design. There was the old CDRD 600 which then gained a 40gb drive to become the CDRHD1000 to help with editing and recording. The follow up 1300 and 1500 really are still superb CD recorders with a drive attached. I've never really thought of mine as a Jukebox.

tweaked old player but still fun design, many players don't have on / offs now, Tag ditched them, one less thing to go wrong....

I've quoted this as you seem to have a habit of changing your posts two hours after you first write them.

Whatever it seems, the unit is not ground up new. It is a slightly revised version of an existing design- every single front panel button is in the same place and does the same thing as its predecessor. Same goes for the remote as well. The Spec is also identical to the older version bar the harddrive.

    Aha !

that explains it then.............the lazy designers didnt want to add remote on / off, direct access etc

oh well - is is Still THE BEST Value CD / HDD unit out there, and the sound is true high end

the DAC on this thing is amazing quality, the best Ive heard........

Maybe in 10 years time, Yamaha will get round to the needed remote functions -

in the meantime I am training my cat to press the on/off button !

    meowwwwwwwwwwwwww

have checked the link, unfortunately they dont have any extended codes for this item, or any of their cd recorders

still seems unbelievable - doesnt it ?!

Ok...this one is going nowhere...we've established that it doesnt have all of the remote access that you'd like, and that it offers good value(by your own admission),and that you have 2 models with different HDD sizes.

No-one else seems particularly bothered, and this won't change the lack of remote on/off on your machines.
