Hi, I need some advices to choose a good amp for these speakers :
B&W 1800, 2 way reflex (see freq. response in attachment), from year 1990.

I'm interested in one of these:
  • Yamaha AS 500 or AS700 (why does someone say that AS500 is better than 700?)
  • DENON PMA 710 AE
  • someting else? same price
room: 20 ft x 20 ft - I like sound with good bass , for 70's rock, Jazz and symphonic
thanks in advance!

If you go to the Denon Website, and look at the detailed specs on the PMC710, you will see that this is not a powerful amp, 50w/ch or there about, though one would hope for the money, that it is a quality amp.

Next, what other features do you need? -

- PHONO Input?
- Tone Controls?
- Ipod Input?
- USB?
- Other?

Also, you seem to have a QUAD Pre/Power system, how is that not serving your needs?

Next, what is your budget? Can we assume £300? More? Less? If more, how much more? If less, how much less?

You mention the Yamaha AS700, so can we assume you are considering this, and can we then assume that the real budget is closer to £400. £500? More?

It is much better if you come out and tell us your budget rather than leaving us to guess.

The budget and the required features more than anything will help us point you in the right direction.

I've heard some people say that A-S700 is better than A-S500 myself, I've read that it is more laid back musically.

Thanks Steve, I need :
phono
tone, loudn
sub out
budget < 400 £
For me Yamaha is ok for look, dimension and spec., but
I wasn't able to listen it and comparing with others amp
in order to figure out its sound; what I fear is the brightness
for the mid and high freq. that somebody claims...
I know that you have one Yam and so you can tell me more
about this . And again, what do you think about the response and impedance
always > 6 Ohm
of my old B&W ( see images )?
About the Quad: after 20 years of use I need some more input and I received a good bid...

It is away at the moment getting upgraded. Original sound I would describe as "bright" detailed wit a lot of attack. Bass is very heavy, good thumping bass to it.

My CD has a tube in it, hence the upgrade to get the best out of the CDP.
