yamaha a2 v yamaha ax2

    i have a yamaha a2 for 2years now.is it worth upgrading to the ax2 mainly forthe ex decoding and better stereo sound.regards jimmy fitz.

    Probably not. I have an A1 and do see the point to upgrade to the AX1, the differences are only minimal and not worth the extra money (AX1 is more expensive than the A1 was).
    Besides there are already new formats around, like NEO:6 and DTS Es Discrete, but the new Ex/Es formats make IMHO only sense if you have lot's of space (2-3m) behind the listening position.

    If you want to "boost" the sound I would rather consider a 5 channel power amp and later replace the A2 with an AV preamp/processor.

    I'd second that.
    The AX2 isn't enough of a leap forward to justify the expense.
    Unless of course you just must have Ex! :)

    In which case, in strict terms, the Yamaha doesn’t cut it since their pseudo-EX scheme isn’t licensed by either Dolby Labs., or LucasFilm THX.
