Dear all, after some recent advice on here I have decided to go for a pair or Monitor Audio Radius 90 speakers and the Radius 200 centre.

I am also replacing my receiver (currently I have an Onkyo 508). I am looking at the Yamaha 675 or A1030 or Pioneer SC-LX57. Obviously the 675 is considerably cheaper which is a plus but I am really interested in sound quality and quality. Is it worth splashing the extra cash on the other models? If so which one?

I am particularly concerned with the ability to control and moderate the volumes of explosions and special effects and boost and increase the clarity of speech. Do these units offer these features?

I'd suggest the RXV675 as being the most apt partner for the speakers, but you may also want to consider the RXV1073. The RXV1073 is for all intense purposes an RXA1020, but without the anti resonance features associated with the Adventage models. The RXV1073 is considerably cheaper than the Adventage models.

Any Yamaha RX-V1073 owners? | AVForums

Thank your for the reply. Can I ask why you think the RXV675 more apt than the superior A1030 model?

I'd want to use better speakers with the RXA1030. The R90 speakers are of a level more apropriate to the RXV675, although the cost of the RXV1073 makes it more viable even if the RXV1073 also really deserves better speakers.

Ok thanks, so what speakers are suitable for the RXA1030?

Look at packages costing in the region of £2K to get the best from the RXA1030. The Monitor Audio Silver would be one option or Monitor Audio's Apex speakers. The Apex is a very good option if not bothering with the Apex sub and using a cheaper sub instead.
